Flute performer
The Venezuelan flutist, Christy, began her musical studies at an early age and later joined The Venezuelan System of Youth and Children’s Orchestras and Choirs. In Caracas, she studied at the «Simon Bolivar» Conservatory of Music with Enver Cuervos and later she pursued a Bachelor´s degree in flute performance at the National Experimental University of the Arts with José Antonio Naranjo.
Her thesis integrated a comparative analysis and a performance proposal on Carl Reinecke´s flute concerto´s three facsimiles, was awarded Publication Mention.
She taken lessons with international professors, such as Sandrine Tilly, Pedro Eustache, Philippe Bernold, John Bailey, Sebastian Jacot, and Francesca Canalli, among others.
During seven years, she was a member of the Caracas Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Dietrich Paredes. With that ensemble, she toured internationally through the United States of America and various countries of Europe and Asia, playing in prestigious venues, such as The Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Konzerthaus in Vienna, Musikverein in Vienna, and the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg.
In her symphonic careers, she has been conducted by Christian Vásquez, Alfredo Rugeles, Eduardo Marturet, Gustavo Dudamel, Zung Kwak, Paolo Bortolameoli, and Christophe Talmont, among others.
As a soloist, she has performed concertos with orchestras in Venezuela and she has an extensive experience performing chamber music in diverse formats, ranging from duos to flute ensembles, as well as woodwind quintets and other mixed groups. She participated in several editions of the Latin American Music Festival in Caracas, performing world premieres of works for small ensembles.
She has also taught children and young people through the System of Orchestras and Youth and Children’s Choirs of Venezuela. From 2018 until 2020, she was a member of the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra, under Diego Matheuz. In 2022, she was a member of the Iowa City Flute Choir, under Heather Neuenschwander. Currently, she is dedicated to teaching children and youth students in Oakland Unified School District, as well leading workshops for woodwinds.
